Students from the Faculty of Architecture of the Silesian University of Technology received a distinction in an architectural competition related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Their team has prepared a design for the construction of a field hospital.
The aim of the “Pandemic” competition, organized by the Ideas Forward portal, was to design a field hospital to fight the COVID-19 pandemic. Participants had 24 hours to complete the task.
The team from the Silesian University of Technology proposed the concept of a building resembling a box in a box, based on a Russian doll – matryoshka. The project consists of modular elements – containers and provides for the possibility of expansion by stacking or repeating modules
The hospital would be built on a large, open and unused space of the airport – such an idea was justified by the reduced air traffic during the pandemic and good communication between airports and cities, which would facilitate access to the hospital facilities for each resident.
