Scientists of the Gdańsk University of Technology have developed a trigeneration device for the simultaneous production of electricity, heat and cold. It will improve energy efficiency, as well as develop dispersed, low-emission energy sources.
The distinguishing feature of the solution is the use of a multi-fuel engine for the production of electricity and heat as well as the use of these energy carriers to drive an air heat pump, as well as a device for hygrothermal treatment.
The use of heat for cooling the engine and exhaust gases will eliminate downtimes of the heat pump, necessary to complete the defrosting process. The surplus heat, with the possible use of heat recovery from flue gas, can be used to heat domestic hot water.
In summer, the device will produce cold in cooperation with a hybrid air-conditioning adsorption device that increases the energy efficiency of the heat pump.
