National Science Center granted Awards 2021

Archaeologist Dr Paweł L. Polkowski, biologist Dr Sebastian Glatt and the mathematician Prof. Jonatan Gutman have been awarded the National Science Center (NCN) 2021 Awards, which are granted to talented scientists for achievements in basic research. 

The National Science Center Award is granted since 2013, to young scientists up to 40 years of age, in the amount of PLN 50,000.

This year the laureate in humanities, social sciences and art is Dr Paweł L. Polkowski, who works at the Archaeological Museum in Poznań and the Center of Mediterranean Archeology of the University of Warsaw. He studies rock art in Egypt and Sudan.

In life sciences, the National Science Center awarded Dr Sebastian Glatt from the Małopolska Center of Biotechnology of the Jagiellonian University. Together with his research team, he specializes in studying the three-dimensional shape of proteins and nucleic acids using cryo-electron microscopy and crystallography.

The winner in the category of exact and technical sciences is Prof. Jonatan Gutman from the Institute of Mathematics of the Polish Academy of Sciences. He deals with the theory of dynamical systems, in particular topological dynamics and ergodic theory.
