The Rector of the Rzeszów University of Technology, the Marshal of the Podkarpacie Province and the Mayor of the City of Rzeszów signed a letter of intent on taking steps to establish 2022 as the “Year of Ignacy Łukasiewicz”.

Considering the approaching 200th anniversary of Ignacy Łukasiewicz’s birth and the 140th anniversary of the death of Ignacy Łukasiewicz, the authorities of the Rzeszów University of Technology, the Podkarpacie Voivodeship and the city of Rzeszów initiated activities aimed at organizing the celebration of the “Year of Ignacy Łukasiewicz”.

In this way, they wish to pay tribute to the great patriot and social activist, one of the most outstanding Polish scientists, whose breakthrough discoveries contributed to the global development of the oil industry. The signatories are convinced that the establishment of the year 2022 by the Sejm of the Republic of Poland as the “Year of Ignacy Łukasiewicz” will restore the memory of his achievements and adequately commemorate his place in the history of the Republic of Poland.
