Scientists from the Institute of Archeology and Ethnology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN) were among the winners of the recently concluded OPUS 21 competition.

Prof. Błażej Stanisławski received over 769 thousand PLN for his project “Archeology of the maritime landscape of the port of Constantinople in the Kucukcekmece lake basin – land and underwater research, communication and commercial networks, mobility”. Its purpose is to study the largest port of Constantinople, which functioned in the period from the 6th to the 14th century. The research will be carried out in accordance with the guidelines of the so-called ‘seascape archeology’ that studies the relationship between man / culture and the sea.

Dr Anna Józefowska-Domańska with her team will carry out a project “Consumer and ritual practices of the early Iron Age based on the settlement in Milejowice and the necropolis in Domasław. Between the function and meaning of “ceramic collections “. The researcher received PLN 442,000 for this purpose. Scientists will analyze materials from the archeological sites in Lower Silesia, discovered during rescue archaeological research conducted on the A-4 highway construction route.
