31.12.2021

Julia Osiecka, a nursing student at the Medical University of Warsaw (MUW), won the sixth Polish part of the Queen Silvia Nursing Award competition. The competition jury appreciated her idea to improve the health of patients suffering from dementia through the use of modern VR technologies.

The originator would like virtual reality to enable seniors to experience the activities they performed while being young and in their prime.

The laureate’s project is based on introducing seniors to virtual reality and stimulating the patient’s brain with appropriate, predetermined colors, images and activities. A student of the Medical University of Warsaw would like to find out how this process affects the psychomotor condition of the patient and how it can improve the quality of his health.

The Queen Silvia Nursing Award competition is international and at the same time its national competitions are held in Sweden, Finland, Germany, Lithuania, the University of Washington in the USA and Brazil. The competition is supported by the Queen of Sweden Sylvia.
