The Faculty of Chemistry of the Silesian University of Technology received the Silver Laurel of Innovation for the project “The process of removing boron from wastewater in the wet flue gas desulphurization (IMOS) installation with simultaneous acquisition of a valuable product – boric acid”. The project is implemented jointly with companies: PGE Mining and Conventional Generation and Energopomiar.

The technology developed by scientists was awarded in the Ecology and Energy Efficiency category. It is used in industrial wastewater treatment plants with excessive amounts of boron. It can also be used by the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries and manufacturers of artificial fertilizers.

The organizer of the Stanisław Staszic competition for the best innovative products “Laurel of Innovation 2021” is the Federation of Scientific and Technical Associations – Supreme Technical Organization. Its aim is to promote modern products, technologies and services.
