The Department of Philological Research “East – West”, the Faculty of Philology of the University of Bialystok, the Faculty of First Philology of the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences in Krakow, the Department of Polish Studies of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kiev and the Lukas Gornicki Podlaska Bookstore in Bialystok are organising on 22 September 2022. International Jubilee Scientific Conference “Adam Mickiewicz and Ukraine: Image of the Country – Image of the Poet – Reception – European Context”.

The conference will have a jubilee character. It will be held within the framework of the Year of Polish Romanticism, which commemorates the 200th anniversary of the beginning of this current in Polish culture with the publication of the first volume of Adam Mickiewicz’s ‘Poezyje’ in Vilnius in 1822.

Research issues of the conference will include: The image of Ukraine and Ukrainian culture in the writings of Adam Mickiewicz; Mickiewicz’s image in Ukrainian culture, the reception of his works; The beginnings of Romanticism in Poland versus the beginnings of Romanticism in Ukraine; Ukrainian lands in Mickiewicz’s biography and works (Kharkov, Odessa, Crimea); Mickiewicz on Ukrainian authors and writers of the Ukrainian school in Polish Romanticism.
