International consortium, coordinated by the West Pomeranian University of Technology, is developing technology to produce ‘plant-based’ polymers. These will be used to produce biodegradable packaging for medical disposables.

One hospital bed generates approximately 3 kg of plastic waste every day. GREEN-MAP is a European research project that aims to develop so-called ‘green polymers’ and thereby create the conditions for a closed-loop economy in the disposable medical device industry.

The project is being carried out with funding from the European Union by a consortium coordinated by the West Pomeranian University of Technology in Szczecin. In addition to it, the consortium comprises: University of Bologna from Italy, the Centre for Polymer and Carbon Materials of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Zabrze, Budapest University of Technology and Economics (Hungary), as well as companies from Italy, Germany, the Netherlands and Poland and a research partner from the USA.
