Warsaw University of Technology (PW) and ADJ Nanotechnology, a spin-off company belonging to the university, were the winners of the “Now Poland” competition in the Innovation category.
The jury awarded the technology of bioactive nanocomposite particles. This is a solution based on the engineering of nanostructures. The particles combine both nanosilver and nanocopper in a single structure, held together by a ceramic matrix. The solution is environmentally friendly, manufactured using so-called green chemistry techniques based on non-toxic organic metal salts.
The technology was developed by a research and development team under the direction of Dr Agnieszka Jastrzębska and CEO and co-founder of ADJ Nanotechnology. It has high biocidal efficacy, not only as a raw material, but also after modification of other materials or in the form of self-sterilising coatings. It can be used in healthcare facilities, retail, entertainment, educational facilities, hotels, restaurants and cinemas where large numbers of people congregate, posing an epidemiological risk.
