The undergraduate’s diploma carried out in the public space design studio at the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław has won an award in the international competition DNA Paris Design Awards 2023 in the Interior Design/Sustainable Living category. The jury awarded the interior design of a sauna for wheelchair users.

The author, Paula Smolka, designed a sauna equipment system that aims to enable wheelchair users to use the sauna independently and safely, without excluding non-disabled people.

The proposed solution consists of several elements: seat, door, handle, headrest. These have been developed in response to predefined user needs. The strength of the design is the modularity of the solution, which allows it to be adapted to different spaces. Also important is the simplicity of execution and the non-stigmatising appearance.
