Students from the West Pomeranian University of Technology in Szczecin have won an honorable mention in the Kaira Looro International competition. The competition task was to design a model school building in Africa. The building was to be constructed in cooperation with the local community and using natural materials.
Michał Pietrusiewicz, Justyna Błasiak and Krzysztof Afeltowicz designed a primary school building in Senegal, shaped like a boat, a leaf or an arrowhead. Stone, wood and metal dominate among the proposed materials. The design refers to tradition, sustainable architecture and ecological solutions, as well as to the history of the region. The design is characterised by a strong connection to nature.
Kaira Looro International is a non-profit architectural competition for students and young architects, aiming to introduce them to the professional world through cash prizes, publications, construction and internships in international architectural firms.
