Researchers from the Department of Physical Geology at the University of Wrocław are taking part in a research project that will allow us to better understand the mechanisms of continental growth. The project ‘How do continents grow? The Köli mantle complex in the Scandinavian Caledonides as a natural laboratory of continental accretion’ has received funding from the National Science Centre.

North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, Antarctica – when we imagine the Earth, we clearly see the outlines of these seven continents that make our planet unique in the Solar System. At the same time, we realise that the Earth’s crust has not always looked this way”.

The research team includes scientists from the Department of Mineralogy, Petrography and Geochemistry of the Faculty of Geology, Geophysics and Environmental Protection of the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow and the Faculty of Earth Sciences and Environmental Management of the University of Wrocław.
