As part of her diploma thesis presented at the Opole University of Technology, Eng. Wiktoria Maciejewska designed a saunarium using the methods of interactive architecture – the large number of visitors to the facility makes it sink into the fog.

‘Interactive art relies on the sauna user being an active participant in the facility. The more participants, the more intense the fog will be. It is also a way to increase the privacy of sauna users, isolating them from the nearby Norwegian Park’, says the author, who is pursuing a second degree.

The innovation involves the installation of jets in the façade of the building that produce steam. This makes the building disappear into the fog and gives it an ambiguous form. The building is single-storey, so it blends easily into its surroundings. The rounded form of the saunarium refers to the mountainous terrain but also to the old Finnish saunas in the form of heated pits that were covered with branches.
