Scientists and doctors from medical centres in Bydgoszcz, including the Bydgoszcz University of Technology, have demonstrated that glioma resections and radiotherapy currently performed in hospitals can be carried out more accurately, effectively destroying the invisible parts of the tumour.

So far, the underestimation of the size of tumours was due to the limited capabilities of magnetic resonance imaging of the brain. The researchers proposed an alternative imaging method, which is significantly more precise and could reach clinical practice in just a few years.

The results of the latest research, presented in the journal Nature Communications, are a consequence of the work carried out by medical and scientific units in Bydgoszcz, with particular contributions from employees of the Oncology Centre, 10th Military Clinical Hospital, Nicolaus Copernicus University Medical College and Bydgoszcz University of Technology.  The research may become the basis for a change in the standards of management in the treatment of gliomas.
