Researchers from the Institute of Geodesy and Geoinformatics at Wrocław University of Life Sciences and China University of Mining and Technology are working on a virtual replica of the atmosphere, oceans and land surfaces. “The digital twin” is to be used to simulate and predict weather and climate scenarios, among other things.
The aim is to complete a virtual replica of Earth’s objects and systems, including the atmosphere, oceans and land surfaces. To obtain the data needed for this, the project envisages the use of satellite systems to monitor and study Earth systems (GNSS remote sensing), aided by artificial intelligence.
The project ‘New horizons for tropospheric observations using a new generation of GNSS satellites, satellite constellation networks and artificial intelligence’ will be carried out within the framework of the SHENG competition of the National Science Centre and the National Natural Science Foundation of China. In the third competition, 13 Polish-Chinese teams received financial support.
