Researchers at the Opole University of Technology are developing a new version of the popular ECG holter. The device is designed not only to record the heart rate, but also to monitor the patient’s breathing.

Currently, two different devices are used for measurements. One to record the heart rate, the other to monitor chest elevation. Each requires separate equipment, which brings with it a number of difficulties. Each additional device limits the patient’s mobility and requires synchronisation of ECG signals and those related to respiratory activity.

The innovative ECG Holter is an initiative of Professor Jerzy Sacha from the Department of Physiotherapy at the Opole University of Technology, who is also the head of the Haemodynamic Research Laboratory at the University Clinical Hospital. When performing various cardiac procedures, he found that in addition to monitoring heart activity, it is also very important to monitor breathing, specifically its frequency. The device developed offers this possibility.
