Prof. Marcin Magierowski, head of the Laboratory of Cell Engineering and Isotope Diagnostics at the Department of Physiology of the Jagiellonian University Collegium Medicum (UJ CM) in Kraków, was among 10 researchers awarded the Rising Star Awards 2024. This is an award given by the United European Gastroenterology Union (UEG) to the most outstanding scientists and clinicians of the younger generation.

The Rising Star award is given to outstanding scientists of the younger generation in the field of clinical and translational gastroenterology, based on the international prominence of scientific publications and the dynamic development of scientific independence.

As the Jagiellonian University reports, the research conducted by Prof. Marcin Magierowski and the Gaseous Mediators and Experimental Gastroenterology Lab research group he founded is concerned with the physiology, pathophysiology and pharmacology of the gastrointestinal tract, with a particular focus on the therapeutic potential of novel prodrugs releasing endogenous gaseous mediators such as carbon monoxide or hydrogen sulphide. The results of these studies have been published in a number of prestigious scientific journals.
