Professor Małgorzata Darewicz, dean of the Faculty of Food Sciences at the University of Warmia and Mazury (UWM) in Olsztyn received the statuette of Saint Jakub in the science category for 2018.

For 16 years statuettes of Saint Jacob, the patron of Olsztyn, are awarded by the Mayor for outstanding achievements in the fields of science, culture, sport, economy, non-governmental activities and for special merits for the city.

Professor Darewicz is a food biochemist. She specializes in basic research to develop the optimization of food protein processing and improvement of production technology of dairy products, with special focus on their health-related properties. She also deals with the development of methods for obtaining protein hydrolysates in the production of dietetic and medicinal preparations.
