University of Lodz intends to launch a research station in Colombia

University of Lodz, together with its partners, intends to buy 30 hectares of North-Tropical rain forest and build a research station in Colombia.

Hofmeisterella biglobulosa, Myoxanthus ortizianus and Hirtzia barrerana are names of unknown species of orchids discovered by Dr Marta Kolanowska. A researcher from the Department of Biology and Environmental Protection of the University of Lodz is working in the Sibundoy Valley, in the southern part of Colombia.

In the valleys of the Putumayo and San Francisco rivers, scientists from Łódź and cooperating with them natives found dozens of flowering orchids, among others Cryptocentrum lehmannii, Trigonochilum porrigens.

The “Biodiversitatis” Foundation, which is a non-profit organization supporting the protection of biodiversity and the Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection of the University of Lodz declared their willingness to create a research station in the Sibundoy valley. The partner of the project is to be the Czech Global Change Research Institute.
