On April 25, 2019, the Senate of the Jan Kochanowski University (UJK) in Kielce will award Professor Wiktoria Śliwowska with the title of Doctor Honoris Causa UJK.
Wiktoria Śliwowska in the years 1949-1953 studied at the State Pedagogical Institute in Leningrad. In 1953, she started working at the Institute of History at the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw, where in 1960 she wrote her PhD thesis entitled “Pietraszow’s case”, and in 1971 she received a postdoctoral degree. In 1994, Wiktoria Śliwowska received the title of professor of humanities.
Professor Śliwowska has published several hundred publications, including books translated into Russian, German, English and Spanish. Her main currents interests include the history of Russia in the nineteenth century, the “Polish Siberia”, both in terms of the extermination of participants of the independence movements in the nineteenth century, and the times of the Stalinist gulags.
