The concept of the youth centre by a student of the Faculty of Architecture of the Wrocław University of Science and Technology was awarded in the architectural competition organized by the UNI portal. The author of the project – Magdalena Jabłońska – won the Editor’s choice award.
The competition task was to design a centre for young people who – for various reasons – lost their accommodation. It will be a place to counteract social exclusion, providing a friendly and safe environment and conditions for dealing with traumas. The boarding school would be located in Jackson, Mississippi, in the South of the USA.
The winner of the award proposed modular buildings inspired by sea containers, connected by a two-level alley with the main building. The residential part would be divided into four smaller complexes – which would counteract the feeling of anonymity of the residents and encourage integration. Individual buildings would be separated by a courtyard, which could become a place for outdoor relaxation.
