Opole University of Technology launched a stand for fire tests of chimneys

12.05.2021

The Faculty of Construction and Architecture of the Opole University of Technology has launched a stand for fire tests of chimneys. It will allow simulating e.g. a soot fire by influencing the structure with exhaust gases at a temperature of 1000 degrees C.

The stand simulates a section of a building with ceiling passages. Scientists have been working on its construction since October 2020. The main aspect is fire safety.

– During research analyzes of this type of structures, the main attention should be paid to fire protection and the elimination of hazards related to the risk of users’ smoke. An equally important aspect, which applies not only to the users of a given facility or installation but to all residents of our country, is air pollution, which is very much affected by chimneys, – says Dr Krzysztof Drożdżol from the Faculty of Construction and Architecture of the Opole University of Technology.
