Activity zone located on the campus of the University of Silesia nominated for the “architectural Oscar”

The activity zone of the University of Silesia campus in Chorzów was nominated for the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award. This is one of the most important architectural awards in Europe, also known as the “architectural Oscar”.

The multifunctional activity zone is a joint undertaking of the university and the City Hall in Chorzów. It has been designed as a meeting place where the variety of attractions allows for interesting spending of time for people of all age groups. The zone consists of a square with a football and basketball court, fitness equipment and green areas. The modern space has been adapted to the needs of people with disabilities.

449 objects were nominated in the latest competition for “architectural Oscars”, including 20 solutions from Poland. The nominees are selected by independent experts from Europe, national architectural associations and the award advisory committee.
