A Liquid Metal Engineering Laboratory was opened at the Faculty of Foundry of the AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków. The opening of the new studio was accompanied by the signing of a cooperation agreement between AGH and the Institute of Metallurgy and Materials Science of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IMIM PAN).
In the new laboratory, scientists from the Faculty of Foundry, with Prof. Jerzy J. Sobczak will work on gazares – highly porous metal materials produced from a liquid state. The metal can be widely applied in the space industry, incl. for the construction of hulls and rocket engines.
The agreement between AGH and IMIM PAN provides primarily for joint research on the development of new materials and technologies for their production, with particular emphasis on liquid metal engineering. In addition, the signatories of the contract will jointly apply for funding for research and development from National Science Center, National Center for Research and Development, European funds or services for the industrial sector.
