The University of Mining and Metallurgy (AGH) in Krakow has signed an amendment to its agreement with the Empa Institute (Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology). This will increase the prospects for development and cooperation in bilateral research, student and doctoral exchanges and the conduct of international projects.

The Empa Institute is a research centre that is part of the Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology Domain – an association of Swiss universities and research institutions.

As the university recalls, the cooperation between AGH and Empa developed on the initiative of Prof Dariusz Katy of AGH and Prof Thomas Graule of Empa. In 2005, the first general cooperation agreement was signed. The current revision of the agreement was signed by AGH Rector Prof. Jerzy Lis and AGH Vice-Rector for Cooperation Prof. Rafał Wiśniowski, as well as Empa Director Prof. Tanja Zimmermann and her deputy Prof. Manfred Heuberger.
