The AGH Space Systems team representing the AGH University of Science and Technology (AGH) in Krakow has won the International Rover Challenge (IRC) 2023 in India. It defeated 17 teams from around the world in the final.

Held in Asia, the IRC is one of the world’s largest student planetary rover competitions and space robotics competitions, but its course of action is different from competitions held on other continents.

In order to fully meet the missions prepared by the organisers, the rover had to be significantly modified and its capabilities adapted to the demanding tasks prepared by the organisers. Students from AGH implemented neural networks and a 3D area mapping system, adapted the shape of the grapple to carry individual objects and collect soil samples, and fully rebuilt the onboard laboratory used during the scientific mission.
