The authorities of four Polish universities including Jagiellonian University in Kraków, AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków, Warsaw University of Technology and Warsaw University are appealing to the Polish government to continue its efforts to initiate a government funding programme to establish an energy storage industry based on electrochemical ionic cell technology, with a particular focus on sodium-ion cells.
According to the university’s authorities, the construction of a battery factory in Poland, operating on the basis of raw material-secured technologies and processes developed at Polish universities, is particularly important in view of the need to ensure the country’s energy security and maintain the competitiveness of the economy.
The authors of the appeal recall that in May 2023, a letter of intent “On cooperation for the development of Polish sodium-ion cells technology for electrochemical energy storage” was signed, whose signatories include the four universities mentioned above, the climate department and ORLEN SA, Grupa Azoty SA, KGHM Polska Miedź SA and Polska Grupa Energetyczna SA.
