Prof. Arkadiusz Marciniak from the department of archeology of the University of Adam Mickiewicz in Poznań was admitted as a member of Academia Europaea. The organization associates almost 5 thousand scientists from various fields, including over a hundred Poles.
Academia Europaea was founded in 1988 on the initiative of the British Royal Society, the world’s oldest scientific society, and the Swedish Academy of Sciences. The Academy invites scientists with outstanding achievements to join its group. It currently associates nearly 5 thousand specialists, including over 70 Nobel laureates.
Prof. Marciniak specializes mainly in issues in historical sciences, including the theory and methodology of prehistory. Directing the work of Polish and British scientists, he made a breakthrough discovery. It turned out that 8.2 thousand years ago, the megacities of Çatalhöyük in today’s Turkey collapsed as a result of rapid climate change. This is evidenced by the remains of fat from pots tested by chemists.
