Automatic translator from Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan outperforms Google and Microsoft translators

Success for researchers from the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan in the world’s most important automatic translation competition. PhD students Artur Nowakowski, Gabriela Palka and two master’s students: Mikołaj Pokrywka and Kamil Guttmann took first places in two translation directions: Ukrainian-Czech and Czech-Ukrainian, defeating translators from Google and Microsoft.

The competition task was to create the best possible translator, able to translate texts from different fields. 

The competition, called the General MT Shared Task, was held as part of the Workshop for Machine Translation 2022 conference, which is the most prestigious event in the field of machine translation. This year, the main areas of expertise that the competition focused on were news, social media, human conversations (e.g. chat) and e-commerce.
