Thanks to international cooperation as part of the National Agency for Academic Exchange project “International multicentric platform as a key element for effective scientific research”, a PhD student from the University of Ghent (Belgium) will conduct his research on the methods of freezing canine sperm at the University of Life Sciences in Wrocław.
– I am working on making semen cryopreservation more efficient. At the moment, only between 50 and 60 percent fertilization of dogs result in a successful pregnancy. In addition, these animals have estrus only twice a year, and in Belgium, until recently, dogs could only be reproduced at the age of 2 to 6 years – says a doctoral student.
The university’s partners are the best world veterinary centers – the University of Ghent, the University of Milan and Padua in Italy, the University of Iowa, the University of Bath and the French L’École Nationale Vétérinaire d’Alfort.
