The (UKSW) in Warsaw, together with the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management, will implement a program to protect endangered bird species.
The contract for co-financing the project “Active protection of endangered species of Charadriiformes on the Vistula islands: implementation of selected protective tasks in the area of the Central Vistula Valley SPA PLB140004” was signed by Rev. Dr Marek Stokłosa, Vice-Rector for Science and International Cooperation and Artur Michalski, Vice-President of the Board of the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management.
The species endangered with extinction, listed on the Red List of Polish Birds: common gull, European herring – gull, little tern and European oystercatcher, as well as the black-headed gull and the common tern, which have significantly decreased in the last two decades, will be actively protected.
Protective measures are designed to limit and neutralize the negative impact of threats, leading to an increase in breeding success and limiting the mortality of mature specimens. The project will include protection of broods in incubators, or neutralization of the presence of terrestrial predators.
