On March 11 (Thursday) at 7.00 p.m. the Catholic Academy in Warsaw and the Theological Sciences Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN) will hold an online debate “Can you be free and responsible in the world of artificial intelligence?” within the program “Pro Tempore. Dialogue of Sciences”.
Prof. Krzysztof Pawlina, chairman of the Theological Sciences Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences and initiator of the series of debates claims that people are increasingly aware that the barrier between man and machine is disappearing.
The question arises about the role of artificial intelligence in our lives, whether it will not dominate a man who will define the good and the evil, or we will still stay free and aware enough, or maybe machines will make us slaves? – explains Prof. Pawlina and points out that today our small computers can plan our day, remind us about purchases, visits, and examine our health condition. So far they only remind, but will they not become demanding it form us one day?
Such a debate, also of theological and humanistic character, is very important today, because we touch the essence of human freedom, their dignity – adds Prof. Pawlina.
