The Catholic University of Lublin (KUL) has solemnly launched the KUL Study Centre at the Detention Centre in Lublin. ‘This Centre can be set as a model for all penitentiary units around the world,’ stressed the Rector of the Catholic University of Lublin (KUL), Rev. Prof. Mirosław Kalinowski. 

The initiative of the Catholic University of Lublin (KUL) is intended to enable convicts to receive higher education, as well as to assimilate important ethical and humanistic values, in accordance with the content of the letter of intent signed earlier with the Central Board of the Prison Service, reports the Catholic University of Lublin.

Since 2013, almost 30 people serving a custodial sentence in the Remand Prison in Lublin have completed their studies at the Catholic University of Lublin. This is a unique initiative, which is confirmed by its rehabilitation results – as many as 80 % of the graduates no longer return to the criminal activities after leaving prison.
