Chemical department of the Wrocław University of Technology equipped with mass cytometer

11.12.2018

The Laboratory of Imaging is launched at the Faculty of Chemistry of the Wrocław University of Technology. The facility has been already equipped with the mass cytometer, the most modern device for the analysis and diagnosis of cellular samples and advanced proteomics. This is only one device of this type in Poland.

Mass Cytometry is an analytical technique that has recently revolutionized modern medical diagnostics in academic laboratories and the pharmaceutical industry. It uses mass spectrometry, sample testing by means of mass spectra analysis of metal atoms, which are used as markers.

With the mass cytometer, scientists can test, for example, cancer cells or leukemia cells, blood cells, and even cells from parasites and bacteria. At the Wrocław University of Technology, the device will be used primarily for the study of proteolytic enzymes (proteases) – specialized proteins that break down peptide bonds.
