Chemists of the faculty of exact and technical sciences of the University of Silesia have developed a new derivative of para-iminostyrylquinoline and indicated its use. This compound is primarily intended to detect metal ions, in particular zinc ions, in human or animal cells, which will allow faster diagnosis of diseases related to the disturbance of the level of this element.
Quinoline derivatives, thanks to their unique properties, can be used in anti-microbial drugs used in the treatment of bacterial and parasitic infections or in the treatment of malaria. They also exhibit antitumor activity and can be used to diagnose Alzheimer’s disease and disorders of the immune system as well as tests related to supporting fertility.
The authors of the patented invention are: Dr Anna Mrozek-Wilczkiewicz, Prof. of the University of Silesia; Dr Katarzyna Malarz; Prof. Robert Musioł and Dr Barbara Czaplińska.
