The Polish Academy of Sciences Library of Gdansk and the State Archives in Gdansk are inviting participants to the conference “Libraries – archives – the city: cultural heritage in the mirror of civilisation” on 16 November.
The aim of the conference is a multifaceted analysis of the relationship between archives and libraries and the city in a historical and contemporary perspective. The institutions established to collect, preserve and provide access to archival and library materials are, in the life of cities and their inhabitants, one of those places where the potentiality of heritage, the so-called cultural capital of cities co-created by urban history, urban structures, artefacts, cultural and scientific institutions and the people involved, is revealed with full force.
The historical link between civilisational development and urban life prompts reflection on the history and current condition of library and archive resources functioning in cities and the people and institutions associated with them.
