Consortium of universities and companies to search technology reducing road construction costs

09.10.2019

The Warsaw University of Technology, Gdańsk University of Technology and the Road and Bridge Research Institute in Warsaw together with Orlen Asfalt, Lotos Group and Budimex have created a consortium for the development of technologies that increase durability and reduce road construction costs.

The consortium is implementing the research project “Optimizing the asphalt structure of the road surface through the use of modified asphalt”.

The producers and scientists want to confirm the impact of use of polymer on modified and highly modified bitumens, i.e. asphalt HiMA (Highly Modified Asphalt) on the durability of the road surface, and consequently on reducing the costs of road construction and maintenance. The results of the research will be known next year and should show the advantages of building roads with use of polymer-modified asphalt. Scientists will examine, also impact of using modified bitumen and PMB HiMA for different layers of road construction.
