In the latest Webometrics Ranking of World Universities, the highest-ranked Polish universities include: the Jagiellonian University in Kraków – 374 place, the University of Warsaw – 388 and the AGH University of Science and Technology – 536. The list includes almost 12,000 universities from all over the world, including 379 from Poland.

The ranking is prepared by the Cybermetrics Lab, a research group of the Spanish Supreme Research Council based in Madrid. It is the largest public research institution in Spain.

The aim of the ranking is to increase the presence of academic and research institutions on the Internet and to promote online publications, as well as to support all types of Open Access initiatives, electronic access to scientific publications and other academic materials. The ranking helps to evaluate the activities of universities on the Internet and signals to academic centers how important it is to promote their own activities on the Internet. It measures the volume, visibility and impact of university websites, with an emphasis on academic achievements.
