Częstochowa scientists to work on new generation surgical instruments

Staff from the Faculty of Science, Life Sciences and Technology at the Jan Długosz University in Częstochowa will carry out an international project ‘Advanced metamaterials dedicated for cardiovascular surgeries to minimise tissue injury’.

The main objective of the project is to develop next-generation atraumatic surgical instruments with overload protection and stress detection to control tissue pressure as a basis for trauma-free tissue grasping.

In addition to the Częstochowa-based university, the project consortium comprises the Polymer Competence Center Leoben, JOANNEUM RESEARCH Forschungsgesellschaft GmbH and DISTECH Disruptive Technologies GmbH from Austria; Kocaeli University from Turkey; and the Silesian University of Technology, the Institute of Metallurgy and Materials Science of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Zbigniew Religa Foundation for Cardiac Surgery Development and CHIRSTOM Marcin and Marek Dyner s.c.
