On 13 December 2023, President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda appointed Dariusz Wieczorek as Minister of Science in the government of Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
Dariusz Wieczorek was born on 23 May 1965 in Szczecin. He is a graduate of the Maria Skłodowska-Curie Secondary School No 1 in Szczecin and the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at Szczecin University of Technology. He also completed postgraduate studies in Organisation and Management of Tourism Economy and Administrative and Local Government Law.
From 1998 to 2001, he was Deputy Mayor of Szczecin and a councillor of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship Assembly of the 2nd, 4th and 5th term. Dariusz Wieczorek was President of the Management Board of Energetyka Szczecinska, a member of the Management Board of the joint-stock company Enea, as well as director of a branch of the company Enea Operator. Since 2019, he has been a member of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland.
In the 9th Sejm, he was a member of the Committee on Maritime Economy and Inland Navigation and the Committee on Energy, Climate and State Assets, as well as secretary of the Left Parliamentary Club. He is vice-chairman of the New Left Party.
