10.05.2018

– It is not true that the implementation of the Act on Science and Higher Education causes some universities to lose the right to use the name “university” – explained Jarosław Gowin, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science and Higher Education in an interview for the newspaper “Rzeczpospolita”.

In the further part of the interview, Deputy Prime Minister Jaroslaw Gowin emphasized that “the draft regulations directly state that even if scientific categories are insufficient under the provisions of the Act to use the name” university “or” technical university “, the current university will have the right to use the existing name”. Conditions regarding the use of the name “university” will refer only to situations when the high school wants to change its name to get the status of “university”.

Deputy Prime Minister Gowin emphasized once again that the solutions adopted in the Act do not break the interests of regional universities.
The Act provides specific solutions dedicated to academic regional universities. The example is a special program “Regional Initiative of Excellence” dedicated to strengthening the scientific potential in regional universities disciplines – stated the Minister of Science and Higher Education.
