Adrian Skrobas from the Faculty of Information Technology and Telecommunications at Wrocław University of Science and Technology has been awarded the laureate of the 5th edition of the Ministry of National Defence’s competition for the Marian Rejewski Prize for the best scientific thesis on cyber security and cryptology.
The laureate graduated with a first degree in cyber-security, which he is now continuing with a master’s degree. The engineering paper awarded in the competition is titled ‘Detecting face viability in 3D space obtained from a depth map using machine learning techniques to prevent identity theft’.
The solution proposed by the student could be a significant step towards creating more secure and accessible biometric systems. Potential applications include areas such as banking, public security, military and general identity protection.
