“ENTHRAL” project becomes a laureate of the GRIEG competition for Polish-Norwegian research projects

06.05.2020

The Consortium of the Silesian University of Technology, the Norwegian University of Science and Technology and the City Hospital No. 4 in Gliwice received funding for the project “ENTHRAL – Non-invasivE iN-vivo assessmenT Human aRtery wALls. Non-invasive determination of human artery wall stiffness in vivo”. The total value of the grant is over 6.3 million PLN.

Stiffening of the walls of blood vessels is primarily the result of aging. As a result, the diameter of large arteries and the thickness of their walls increases. Measurement of arterial stiffness is a valuable indicator in the diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases.

The goal of the project is to develop a non-invasive technique for measuring local arterial wall stiffness. The final stage of the project will bring a medical solution through which carotid wall deformations due to cyclic pressure changes caused by myocardial contraction will be measured using an ultrasound scanner.
