At the University of Cassino (Italy) the exhibition of students of the Silesian University of Technology has been presented. Their works were created as part of the project “San Pietro Infine: il luogo e la memoria – place and memory”.
The exhibition is the result of a competition organized by the Faculty of Architecture of the Silesian University of Technology together with the Department of Civil Engineering and Mechanics of the University of Cassino and the city of San Pietro Infine – a city completely destroyed during the Second World War. From 1943, the town is abandoned and remains in ruins.
This area is very valuable historically, architecturally and culturally and it has become the subject of research, conservation and design studies. The aim of the project is to research and evaluate the heritage, develop a strategy for its protection and promotion, carry out architectural and conservation projects, make the area accessible to visitors, and build awareness of its value, and significance also in the history of World War II.
