Researchers of the Medical University of Gdańsk are co-authors of the work “Prevalence of diabetes in Poland: a combined analysis of national databases”. The analysis concerns diabetes, which is one of the main health problems in Poland and in the world.
The analysis of Gdańsk scientists was published in the journal “Diabetic Medicine”. It shows that there are 2.68 million diabetic patients in Poland (including almost 0.5 million patients who are unaware of the disease). This is the first comprehensive and precise assessment of the number of diabetic patients in Poland. Its publication was preceded by the work of a special working group appointed by the Public Health Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
The working group carried out extensive analyzes using data from the National Health Fund and the National Institute of Public Health – the National Institute of Hygiene, commercial organizations and the results of scientific research.
