25.07.2019

Krakow archaeologists, participating in the Polish-Slovak project, discovered traces of the settlement of the people established several thousand years ago inside the Huczawa Cave in the Bielske Tatras.

The Polish-Slovak research began in the Huczawa Cave on the slopes of Kobyli Wierch at the beginning of July this year. The researches are run under the supervision of Prof. Paweł Valde-Nowak from the Institute of Archeology of the Jagiellonian University and Dr Marian Sojak from the Institute of Archeology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences in Nitra. The works are carried out as part of the project „Paleolithic ritual project in the Cave in Obłazowa”, financed from the grant of the National Science Center.

As a result of previous work, dozens of stone blades of hunter spears were discovered in one piece or in fragments, including specimens typical of Magdalenian culture from its late development phase, dated to 13-12 thousand years BC.
