02.04.2020

Dr Katarzyna Hamer and Dr Marta Marchlewska from the Institute of Psychology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN) and Dr Maria Baran from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities conducted on 23-24 March research “What are Poles afraid of in connection with coronavirus?”

The study was conducted on a representative group of 1098 adult Poles. The researchers used the Ariadna panel and the CAWI (Computer-Assisted Web Interview) method. Respondents answered questions about 10 days after introducing restrictions in Poland to help combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

It has turned out that the level of nervousness and anxiety in society is quite high. Poles are most afraid of: illness of family (72%), financial crisis and market collapse (71%), overcrowded hospitals and an inefficient health system (73%) and that some people will not follow the recommendations and the virus will spread too quickly (75 %).
They are also afraid that they will get sick themselves and of changing their former lifestyle They are least afraid of running out of food and hygiene products on store shelves.
