Scientists to advise the Minister of Science on pandemics

03.04.2020

An interdisciplinary group of scientists will advise the Minister of Science and Higher Education on issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic and recommend solutions. The team is managed by Prof. Maciej Żylicz, president of the Foundation for Polish Science.

Those 15 specialists will be responsible for preparing information on the epidemic caused by COVID-19 incidents. The team will also prepare information on scientific research related to the COVID-19 epidemic and analyze the needs related to supporting scientific research on SARS-CoV-2 virus conducted in Poland. The experts will also review applications for funding for scientists conducting research related to coronavirus.

The group’s task will also be to analyze the opposing strategies to fight the epidemic, which have been adopted by Sweden (no isolation) and Germany (similar to Poland’s isolation strategy and similar infection kinetics, shifted by 8/9 days in relation to Poland). The results of these analyzes can help create recommendations for future activities in Poland.
