Foundation for Polish Science financed coronavirus projects of Gdańsk researchers

The University of Gdańsk conducts research to combat the coronavirus pandemic. Additional funding for research related to COVID-19 has been obtained by two researchers from the Gdańsk university. Their projects will be financed by the Foundation for Polish Science under the Intelligent Development Operational Program.

Dr Danuta Gutowska-Owsiak, head of the Laboratory of Experimental and Translational Immunology of the intercollegiate faculty of biotechnology of the University of Gdańsk and the Medical University of Gdańsk, obtained funding for the project “Exosomes secreted by keratinocytes in the induction of allergies and tolerance to environmental allergens”.

Dr Alicja Chmielewska from the Department of Molecular Biology of Viruses at the intercollegiate faculty of biotechnology will implement the project “Antiviral activity of interferon-induced membrane proteins (IFITM) as a new therapeutic strategy in the control of viral infections – in vitro and in vivo research”.
